Just one week until the Self-Care through Womb Love class begins!  Sabrina Ouriana will guide us to a deeper, more comprehensive understanding and relationship with our most intimate of intimates.  Part of this class will include an in-depth discussion on yoni steaming, so to mark #herbalwisdomwednesday, we would love to revisit a wonderful article by our own Danielle!

I've noticed a recent trend in awareness and curiosity surrounding yoni steaming. My very first impression of yoni steaming left me with more questions than answers, and quite frankly I thought it was very odd. It wasn't until I had been dealing with a prolonged unexplained illness of sorts that I considered taking a second more in depth look into yoni steaming. I'm quite glad I did.

Many of the articles and personal accounts regarding yoni steaming gave me greater understanding of how important it is to take time to pamper and honor the most sacred parts of our bodies. A time to be still, go within, nurture, and heal. This all sounded great, but how does one go about perfecting the sacred art of yoni steaming?

The first thing to consider is you don't need to spend a ton of money to give yourself the royal treatment. Herbs, hot water, blankets, a vessel for herbs & water, a stool/chair/toilet to sit on, and a minimum of 20 minutes is really all you need to get started.

Yoni steaming can be for anyone for any number of reasons. Here's a short list of common reasons women yoni steam:

-Dark blood at the beginning or end of the menstrual cycle
-Postpartum and post miscarriage or post DNC
-Menstrual Complaints & Irregular Cycles
-Endometriosis
-Pelvic Muscle Tension, Pelvic Pain
-Uterine Prolapse
-Dysmenorrhea, Amenorrhea
-Hemorrhoids,Constipation
-Fibroids, Ovarian Cysts, PCOS
-Fertility, Infertility, Conception preparation
-Trauma, i.e. victimization, molestation, rape, energetic draining, or assaults, and so on.

There are times to be extra cautious or avoid yoni steaming, such as:

-If there are tears, open wounds
-Post birth/ c-section
-When infection is present
-During Pregnancy
-During Menstruation
-If there are symptoms of damp or moist heat in the pelvis, vagina or colon i.e.: vaginal infection, candida, bacterial infection, herpes outbreak.

The idea is to create a comfortable feeling, if pain becomes present or is worsened by attempting to steam, wait until a more suitable time. -Danielle Hewitt, May 2017
